My name is Jacob Silver, but you can call me Jake if you want. I have been tutoring since 2010, and it’s been a fantastic experience. It started as a way to help put myself through college, and it quickly became a labor of love. I discovered that I had both an aptitude and a passion for helping students overcome their difficulties with schoolwork. It’s been a few years since I started, and I now have a boring regular day job that pays the bills. But I still spend my evenings and weekends doing what I enjoy, and offering my help to those that need it.
My approach to teaching is to teach in a way that brings a deeper understanding to my students. Most people who come to me for help need assistance in math. And there are always 2 ways to learn math. You can memorize the procedures, or you can learn reasons behind the methods. And while memorization can help you pass your next test, it won’t provide the foundation to build all the following concepts upon. Which is why I always make an effort to fit what I teach into the bigger picture that is math, so that the connection points will be there when the next piece of the puzzle comes around. When you truly understand what you’re doing, you don’t have to make the effort to remember it.
If you need any more information at all, feel free to ask. My contact information is available on the contact page. And the available appointment slots can be found in the availability tab. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
